The Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB) made it mandatory that all agents must acquire this National FET Certificate in Real Estate during their first 12 months as an intern agent. It is the first step in fulfilling the EAAB’s legal requirements. The other requirements that must be met to become a professional estate agent are:
- the completion of a 12 month internship,
- the submission of a logbook,
- passing the Professional Designation Exam [PDE], and
- ongoing Continuing Professional Development [CPD].
This national qualification is the qualification prescribed by the EAAB for all new interns. It has been specifically designed to develop all the competencies required by intern estate agents. These include:
- the code of conduct,
- marketing and sales,
- understanding the real estate business sector,
- bond financing,
- FAIS, FICA and other related legislation.
Intern agents will also be guided by Chartall facilitators to complete their logbooks, and many of the projects from the qualification can also be used in the logbook.
The qualification provides successful learners with access to the Chartall Business College Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Intern agents, and even principals, may feel overwhelmed with their logbook. Chartall Business College will guide you through this process step-by-step and make sure that you complete both your logbook and the qualification in your 12 month internship. Information about the logbook can be found here.

[expand title=”Is this qualification only for South Africans?”]
Anyone can complete the Real Estate qualifications. However, in terms of the new Property Practitioner Act clause 50, the EAAB may not issue a Fidelity Fund Certificate to anyone who is not a South African citizen and does not lawfully reside in the Republic.
